Beni Tajite
Beni Tajite is a small village located in the desert of Morocco. The population here consists of mostly Berbers which are the indigenous people of Morocco. The closest big city is 5 hrs away by bus on a mountainous one lane road making transportation very hard and in a way, isolating Beni Tajite. Aside from the random big SUVs from Europe that drives through without even stopping, there are no tourists. While most women are extremely gifted in making traditional Berber crafts amongst other things, there is no market to sell to. The lack of jobs available for women has forced women to find jobs working in mines in the nearby mountain where they have to wake up at 5 every morning to climb onto the mountain and stay up there until 5 in the afternoon making less than 2 dollars a day. Due to the lack of oxygen and light inside these mines, many women develop respiratory problems and lose their eye sight.
